The Apple Watch is going to come with 8GB of storage which sounds great right? That's the good news, the bad news is that not all of this storage is user accessible. A good chunk of this space is going to be taken up by the Watch OS so what do users get? Well you are actually only going to get 2GB of storage. Want to know why? Keep reading.

Normally 2GB of storage would be laughable, but for a smartwatch that is actually built to dance in tune to the iPhone with the occasional untethered use, the storage size is enough. As noted by 9to5Mac, the first models of the Apple Watch were also carrying 8GB of storage and the watch models that will be available for shipping on the 24th of April will also have the same storage size. It doesn't matter what Apple Watch Edition you go for, they will all have the same storage.

The 2GB of storage space that is user accessible will be allocated to storing music tracks and a mere 75MB is going to be given for photos. This isn't a bad deal when you consider that the Apple Watch is not supposed to be a replacement for your iPhone and the ability to carry over 200 quality music tracks could be just perfect for your morning job or exercise routine. You do have 75MB for photos but you probably won't need this because you have your iPhone for this. Apple only want you to store your most treasured pictures on your Watch and this is considered to be the most personal device ever. The photos are going to be resized when transferred to the Apple Watch so you should be able to hold around 100 pictures.

One thing we are all aware of, is the fact that iOS 8 was the chunkiest release of Apple's mobile OS, but Watch OS cannot possible be taking up all 6GB out of the 8GB storage. After all, that 75% of the space. There are internal apps, and the need for storing caches and other temporary files that are required to ensure that the Watch OS runs as smoothly and fluidly as iOS and OS X. It has also been reported that once the native SDK for the Watch OS arrives as announced by Apple, all this empty space will be used for storing application binaries and resources.

So there you have it, if you thought you were getting a smartwatch with 8GB of storage, you were mistaken. What you are getting is a smartwatch with 8GB of internal storage and 2GB of user accessible storage. Will this put you off getting an Apple Watch? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
