According to reports, the Apple Watch is now at the closing stages of preparation. CEO Tim Cook last month suggested that the company was on track to begin shipping the watch in April. To help the developers with the preparation of the first batch of apps in time for the launch, Apple has been inviting a number of developers to its campus over the past week. This is set to continue and over 100 app makers being invited in total.

We are all well aware that any new product category on the mobile market has to have a decent selection of apps available to it right from the go. The early Apple Watch customers won't be inundated with options but the company does seem to be taking steps to ensure that users will have enough to keep themselves occupied.

As part of this invitation program, Apple has selected a varied ensemble of developers, ranging from authors of productivity apps to sports related utilities. The aim of the program is to ensure that all apps are finished and ready for the launch. For Apple devs, this is a really exciting time. Back when iOS first allowed third party developers to create apps, there were those that stood out and established monumental brands as a result of the early-bird mindset. The likes of Angry Birds, Doodle Jump and Sleep Cycle Alarm Clock have all enjoyed success because they were available from the beginning. With Apple Watch just weeks away, many app makers old and new will be hoping for a quick start and a healthy user base among the early customers.

As well as developers, Apple has also been in talks with banks in light of the Apple Pay initiative, which was introduced with iOS 8.1. The contactless payment system has enjoyed a largely incident free first few months, and with Apple Watch set to play a major role in proceedings looking ahead, having the banks and big financial institutions onside is essential.

There are so many developers involved and it could be that Apple wants to showcase some of the apps at the special media event that will happen with the launch. All the developers that have attended so far have done so in secrecy and they are only identifiable by “unique number identifiers”, rather than real names.

We are all really excited about the arrival of the Apple Watch and we can't wait to get our hands on one of these devices so that we can report back to you on exactly what this little gem can do. Until then, we will supply you with any further updates that we receive.
